Pay range: $67,650 - $108,240

M.C. Dean is looking for a Technical Writer 2 with experience within the construction and security industries. The position will operate as an embedded and dedicated resource within a global operations team. The Technical Writer position is responsible for taking complex, technical information and translating it into an easily understandable format. The Technical Writer will work closely with engineers and other internal employees to interpret specifications, engineering drawings, reports, and other data to ensure production of technical documentation that complies with customer, company, and industry requirements. Additionally, the Technical Writer will play a pivotal role in drafting, editing and submitting technical papers and white papers for client consumption.

In this capacity, you will have the opportunity to:

• Write, edit, and meticulously proofread technical and proposal documents in response to client requests and requirements, adhering to established schedules and deadlines.

• Write, format, edit, review, and proof procedural and technical information for technical and nontechnical users.

• Acquire in-depth knowledge of design standards

• Develop strategies for addressing business challenges and capitalizing on opportunities in the technical solutions field.

• Collaborate closely with subject matter experts (SME's), conducting thorough research, developing customer and program deliverables while gaining firsthand insights into work processes.

• Maintain configuration management over all technical documents.

• Collaborate with subject matter experts (SMEs) to create and maintain clear and concise technical documentation for physical security solutions that include but are not limited to infrastructure, access control, video surveillance, intercom, intrusion detection, storage, networking, application, and computer environments as well as Cybersecurity requirements.

• Reviews drawings and other documents to write and edit specifications for projects and coordinates compliance with project requirements, institutional guidelines, Populous standards, technical conditions, acceptable standards, and existing laws, rules, regulations, and codes.

• Interprets the project design requirements and translates those requirements into materials, methods, equipment, procedures, installation, and certification testing necessary to provide the narrative descriptions which are used to procure, install, and erect building components.

• Develops new specification sections as needed.

• Integrates sustainable design initiatives into specifications.

• Participates in QA/QC reviews and checks on project documents.

• Develop commissioning plans including functional performance test scripts

Additional Responsibilities:

• Gather information from SMEs, breaks complex processes into straightforward steps and ensures that documents contain the appropriate level of detail and instruction appropriate for the end user.

• Actively participate in all phases of the technical writing process, including strategy sessions, refining ideas, and cultivating sources.

• Meet customer-driven schedules for the submission of technical, management, and past performance sections, including the preparation of briefing and approval packages for senior and executive management.

• Tackle challenges and requirements posed by major businesses, and organizations in the industrial and security systems domain.

• Conceptualize impactful graphics, figures, tables, and other presentation elements to optimize the impact of information.

• Maintain a library of templates and technical documents

• Maintain technical documentation quality and consistency across technical documentation of similar types and across multiple projects.

Requirements & Qualifications:

• Bachelor's degree in Communications, English, Technical Writing, Computer Science, Engineering, Cybersecurity, Information Technology, or relevant field with 2-4 years of experience; or 8-10 years' experience working in the IT and/or Cloud Computing industry as a technical writer required with a high school diploma / GED.

• Knowledge of AP Style guidelines

• Experience with data/statistical analysis tools

• Strong ability to understand and document IT infrastructure, software applications, and cloud/hybrid/private cloud-based technologies

• Strong writing and communication skills with meticulous attention to detail.

• Facilitate document review teams, collect and consolidate critical inputs, and coordinate revisions as necessary.

• Ability to work independently and manage multiple projects simultaneously.

• Coordinates and reviews consultant technical specifications for conformance with Populous standards.

• Ability to produce well-coordinated, detail-oriented, fully integrated specifications

• Ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously and produce results within deadlines

• Ability to interface with all levels of management.
