Technical Writer
EnergyHub empowers utilities and their customers to create a clean, distributed energy future. We help consumers turn their smart thermostats, EVs, batteries, and other products into virtual power plants that keep the grid stable and enable higher penetration of solar and wind power.
We are looking to hire an experienced and capable Technical Writer on a contract-to-hire basis while our in-house technical writer is out on leave. During the contract period, you will help solve internal and external gaps in knowledge and increase the overall understanding of our product. We’re looking for someone who enjoys working autonomously, embraces ambiguity, and thrives on learning new things.
The initial contract period is 5-6 months, allowing time for transitions and knowledge exchanges before and after our technical writer’s leave. At the end of the contract period, this role could be extended to full-time status.
Contract Details
- $45.00 - $60.00 per hour
- 20 hours per week
- October 2024 - March 2025
- Potential to go full-time as an EnergyHub employee starting April 2025
Main Responsibilities
- Follow the established documentation publishing process and standards that are applied to all documentation for the product.
- Maintain existing articles and create new content as needed in the online knowledge base.
- Work with subject matter experts across the company to create and deliver content based on product timelines and customer needs.
- Maintain training materials to support knowledge sharing within the company as well as with its clients and customers.

Key Skills & Experience
- You love digging in, learning new things, and making complex concepts accessible to a broad audience.
- You obsess over language and communication, aiming to continuously improve your practice, process, and craft.
- You’re able to assess priorities and be effective with minimal guidance.
- You have experience with learning management systems and/or online knowledge bases.
- You’re able to quickly come up to speed and provide value to existing and new projects in a short timeframe.
Qualifications
- 2+ years of technical writing in a SaaS environment and/or other relevant experience.
- Experience working with technical products and documenting SaaS SOPs.
- Experience working with a broad range of stakeholders and users.
- Familiarity with Atlassian products, specifically Confluence and Jira.
- Writing samples that show your ability to document complex technical products for a broader audience.
Preferred Skills & Experience
- Professional experience with and/or a passion for grid-edge technologies.
- Professional experience working with utilities and/or device companies.
- Experience using ClickHelp as a documentation tool.
