Job Description
We are seeking a dedicated Technical Writer to join the research unit led by Dr. You will play a pivotal part in enhancing the team's scientific endeavors by crafting well-structured and comprehensive scientific materials. These materials encompass a wide range of content, including publications, grant submissions, how-to guides, instruction manuals, study figures, model illustrations, specifications, mockups, and product samples.
Your responsibilities will involve gathering insights from ongoing research studies, generating informative charts, graphs, and forms, and translating complex scientific and technical concepts into easily understandable language for both laypersons and specialized audiences. Your role will contribute to making technical verbiage accessible and clear to a diverse audience. Moreover, you will have the opportunity to develop proficiency in qualitative analysis for informatics research projects and master the art of data presentation.
Engaging with stakeholders such as customer representatives, vendors, and publishers may be part of your journey to establish precise technical specifications. Crafting technical guidance for product announcements, marketing collateral, brochures, advertisements, and marketing specifications will be another valuable aspect of your role, encompassing the full scope of the document development life cycle.
You might also be involved in conducting tutorials, training sessions, or other instructional initiatives related to the application of technical documents within the realm of informatics research.
Flexibility is a hallmark of this position, as it offers the potential for remote or hybrid work arrangements. If you choose to work remotely, you will be responsible for ensuring suitable workspace, printing facilities, networking, and internet connectivity, all in accordance with the campus and Health Academics Telecommuting Agreement.
Responsibilities:
- Craft user-centric documentation, including how-to guides and instruction manuals.
- Incorporate visual aids like charts, graphs, and forms to complement written content.
- Communicate complex scientific ideas in a simple and accessible manner.
- Collaborate with stakeholders to define technical specifications.
- Provide technical direction for marketing materials, adjusting content and design as needed.
- Follow the document development life cycle to ensure consistency and quality.
- Facilitate tutorials and training sessions for utilizing technical documents.
Work Environment and Physical Requirements:
You'll primarily operate in an office environment, engaging in tasks such as sitting, listening, talking, and typing. Some walking and repetitive hand motion may also be involved occasionally while bending and reaching overhead are less frequent requirements.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in a related field or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- 2-4 years of experience in the field or a related area.
- Familiarity with standard concepts, practices, and procedures in the specific field.
