Technical Writer

ICF is a rapidly growing, entrepreneurial, multi-faceted consulting company, seeking a technical writer to support our work across HHS and NIH. The Technical Writer to create and revise technical documents related to Federal government compliance such as System Security Plans, Standard Operating Procedures and Policies, EPLC or a System Development Life Cycle documents, diagrams and reports. 

This writer will participate in creating and overseeing cybersecurity content familiar with NIST 800-53 and the ATO process, whether it's composing reports, synthesizing data, creating manuals, or editing cybersecurity policies to resonate with the target audience. The person will write and edit procedural documentation such as user guides and manuals, will determine the type of publication that will best serve the project requirements. Meets with engineers, programmers, and project managers to learn about specific products or processes, and research product samples to fully understand product.

Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Independently manage all project-related documentation.
  • Writes and gather information for Federal government NIST 800-53 ATO compliance including System Security Plan, Configuration Management Plan, Contingency Plan, Incident Response Plan and such related to NIST 800-53 Rev 4/5 compliance.
  • Writes and edits technical/procedural documents including SOPs and user guides.
  • Able to use Visio or draw.io to draw AWS architecture diagrams.
  • Meets with programmers, IT team members and project managers to learn about specific projects or processes.
  • Research highly technical information and gather input from cybersecurity team members.
  • Assist with the authoring, proofing and quality control of project documentation, operational procedures, technical reports, research publications and presentations.
  • Assesses the audience needs for whom the technical and procedural documentation is intended; adjusts tone and technical terms used to meet those needs and to ensure understanding.
  • Plans writing processes and sets timelines and deadlines.
  • Creates or works with graphic designers to create diagrams, charts, and other visual aids to assist readers in understanding a product or process.
  • Gathers feedback from customers, designers, and manufacturers to improve technical documents.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in English, Technical Writing, IT, Cybersecurity, Computer Science, Communications or related field required.
  • 3+ years of experience in IT or Cybersecurity or Business Analyst Technical Writing
  • 1+ year with cybersecurity principles or software development methodologies or business analysis workflows

Pay Range - There are multiple factors that are considered in determining final pay for a position, including, but not limited to, relevant work experience, skills, certifications and competencies that align to the specified role, geographic location, education and certifications as well as contract provisions regarding labor categories that are specific to the position. The pay range for this position is:

$68,325.00 - $116,152.00
