Technical Writer

VetsEZ is looking for a highly self-motivated Technical Writer for a large multi-year federal government project. The candidate should possess an understanding of information design, healthcare interface design, information architecture, training material development, management, user interfaces, and business analysis. The ideal candidate should possess outstanding research, writing, and communication skills and should have a proven track record of displaying attention to detail while meeting deadlines.

The candidate must reside within the continental US.

Responsibilities:

  • Support technical analysis and system requirements documentation for solution/product development. Plan, write, and research project deliverables such as user guides, release notes, administrative documents, training guides, etc.
  • Collaborate with scrum masters, developers, and management to identify, produce, and maintain technical documentation for all software products.
  • Gather requirements and deliver documentation for IT product implementation by conducting interviews, workflow analysis, process analysis, and observation sessions.
  • Attend team meetings, review and provide input to requirements, design, and user interface; determine if other departmental projects are impacted by the design and disseminate project information to other department members.
  • Estimate and schedule deliverables for multiple projects; assess schedule and workload impact when unexpected work arises; adjust schedules; and keep management and project team abreast of schedule changes.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in English, journalism, computer science, or related discipline.
  • 5 years of relevant technical writing experience and a bachelor's degree
  • Experience in simplifying scientific and technical concepts for the average reader.
  • Experience engaging with authors and team members to meticulously review documents, integrate inputs/corrections, address conflicting comments, and deliver polished, final documentation.
  • Experience in good documentation practices and proficiency in core Microsoft software/systems like Word, Excel, Project, SharePoint, and PowerPoint.
  • Expertise in creating various types of documentation including architecture artifacts, DODAAF diagrams, Business Process Models, System Design Documents, etc.
  • Must be self-motivated and proactive to reach out to all members of the organization to get the material that is necessary.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, is detail-oriented and takes pride in their finished work product.
  • Attention to detail and development of professional-looking artifacts.

Additional Skills:

  • Technical Writing experience within the Healthcare Industry is a plus.
  • Previous experience and knowledge of VIP templates used for various artifacts within the Department of Veterans Affairs is a plus.
  • Experience with VA Health Portfolio and Informatics Product Line is a plus.
  • Experience in Data Integration Modernizations and Secure Messaging is a plus.
  • Technical Writing experience within the Healthcare Industry is a plus.
  • Ability to obtain a government clearance. Active VA access is a plus.
  • Knowing the basics of HL7 and FHIR is a plus.
  • Experience working with software developers is a plus.
