Technical Writer/Trainer

VetsEZ is seeking a Technical Writer/Trainer to join our growing team supporting the Department of Veteran Affairs. This person will work closely with the development teams and support the deployment, management, and extension of knowledge management programs. The ideal candidate will have a technical background and the proven ability to deliver high-quality technical documentation.

The candidate must reside within the continental US.

Responsibilities:

  • Assist in writing and/or editing technical documents, including business proposals, reports, user manuals, briefings and presentations, functional descriptions, system specifications, guidelines, special reports, and other project deliverables to meet contract requirements.
  • Develop outlines and drafts for review and approval by technical specialists and project management ensuring that final documents meet applicable contract requirements and regulations.
  • Research and gather technical and background information for inclusion in project documentation and deliverables.
  • Consult relevant information sources, including library resources, technical and financial documents, and client and project personnel, to obtain background information and verify pertinent guidelines and regulations governing project deliverables.
  • Meet with authors and other team representatives to review documents, compile inputs/corrections, resolve incompatible comments and provide final publishable documentation.
  • Explain in simple language scientific and technical ideas that are difficult for the average reader to understand.

Requirements:

  • A Bachelor's degree in communications, engineering, or a related field.
  • 2 years of relevant technical writing experience.
  • Experience editing narrative and graphic products to identify and correct grammatical formatting and logic errors and to identify logical inconsistencies that will require author attention.
  • Experience in the application a variety of word processing, spreadsheet, graphics, and scheduling tools.
  • Experience in meeting with authors and other team representatives to review documents, compile inputs/corrections, resolve incompatible comments, and provide final publishable documentation.
  • Experience in explaining in simple language scientific and technical ideas that are difficult for the average reader to understand.
  • Experience in page or screen layout, design, adherence to known styles and citation methods (APA, ASA, MLA, etc.).
  • Ability to use a variety of word processing, spreadsheet, graphics and scheduling tools to create and enhance content for projects and team deliverables.
  • Familiarity with government (especially VA) documents and templates.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills, with superior attention to detail.

Additional Qualifications:

  • Experience authoring or editing policy and/or process manuals for a government Program Management Office (PMO).
  • Experience creating videos using Adobe Captivate.
  • Experience training in-person and virtual.
  • Ability to obtain a government clearance.
