Position Description
The VP of Engineering directly manages the engineering team and engineering managers.
You will collaborate with the CTO to execute an inspiring and strategic technical vision defining engineering's role in meeting the company's goals. You will lead an engineering management team, ensuring they have the right resources, systems and tools to be set up for success. You will work with functional leadership across the organization, developing particularly strong relationships with product, design, care and provider operations to ensure engineering works in synergy to deliver a world-class platform.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Evaluate, assign and manage through completion, requests for Solutions Architecture support for technology initiatives. These initiatives encompass both small and large IT projects as well as assessments of IT systems.
- Ensure via review, discussion and appropriate communications, the definition and selection of solutions, and creation of architectural blueprints depicting logical and physical architectures to be used to implement solutions.
- Research new technology solutions and introduce them as needed in response to existing or future business needs
- Provide technical and thought leadership to own staff, across IT and customers as warranted.
- Ensure that recommended solutions leverage existing components and architectural patterns while reinforcing Corporate IT vision, principles and strategy. Ensure engagement of appropriate technology and business partners in reviewing and approving solutions.
- Identify gaps and/or future needs in the area of architecture and technology strategy, and provide input and recommendations.
- Assist in identifying and developing new architecture methodologies.
- Assume special assignments as requested to enable IT to lower operating costs, increase partner satisfaction, increase client and agent satisfaction
- Personnel:
- Develop and administer plans for staffing, including hiring, performance management, use of consultants, succession planning, and job rotation.
- Ensure appropriate training, cross training, mentoring, coaching, performance feedback, and prepare and conduct semi-annual performance reviews.
Corporate and IT Management:
- Establish area goals commensurate with business requirements and reports and communicate on progress.
- Define and reinforce departmental and corporate standards of business conduct and compliance practices
Requirements
- 10+ years in Information Technology with experience in application and infrastructure development, as well as architecture.
- 6+ years experience in managing teams.
- Hands-on and fluent in one or more technologies in our stack: Java, JavaScript, TypeScript, Node.js, React, Python
- Ability to work with all levels in the organization
- Strong influencing and diplomacy skills
- Strong decision making skills
- Budgetary and resource planning skills
- Part of experience should be in Financial Services Technical experience should encompass a broad range of technologies, and a broad range of disciplines including development, databases, middleware, network, and web based applications, etc.
- There should be past hands-on experience in at least one or two of these and strong conceptual knowledge in all of them.
- Management responsibility experience should include recruiting, budgeting, planning, organizing, tracking, and performance management
- Broad knowledge of IT technologies including both business applications and infrastructure. Knowledge of object oriented languages, relational databases, wide area and local area networks, messaging middleware, web middleware including web servers and application servers, security authentication and authorization technologies, collaboration, and software development tools.
- Understanding of layered architectures, re-usability concepts, abstractions layers, and application/infrastructure patterns.
- Flexibility and ability to deal with uncertainty and deal with working and evolving strategies as solutions are defined.
- AWS Experience
- Experience working with and integrating Enterprise CRM systems (e.g. Salesforce, Hubspot)
