VP of Engineering

The Role:

As the VP of Engineering at Pachama, you will play a pivotal role in shaping our technological trajectory, leading our engineering efforts, and collaborating seamlessly with diverse teams. This leadership position directly reports to the CEO and is essential to our company's scaling and impact efforts.

Location:

This role is fully remote. However, being located on the West Coast is preferred.

Pachama is a technology company on a mission to restore nature to solve climate change. Harnessing the latest advancements in satellite imagery, remote sensing, and artificial intelligence, Pachama evaluates the carbon stored in our forests and monitors forest growth over time. Pachama has two distinct pathways to help brands meet their climate targets today and create long-term strategies for the future. With Pachama Verified projects, companies can invest in existing high-quality forest conservation and restoration projects vetted by Pachama’s rigorous evaluation process. Through Pachama Originals, companies can start projects from the ground up, making catalytic investments in the next generation of tech-enabled forest carbon projects.

What You Will Help Us With:

  • Engineering Leadership
  • Lead, mentor, and grow the engineering team, ensuring that they are motivated, engaged, and equipped with the necessary resources.
  • Oversee all engineering projects, ensuring they are on track, within budget, and aligned with the company's strategic objectives.
  • Technical Strategy
  • Collaborate with the VP of Product, VP of Science, Co-founders and other leaders to define and implement the technological vision and strategy of Pachama.
  • Stay updated with the latest technological trends, especially in software, machine learning, and geospatial data, to ensure Pachama remains at the forefront of innovation.
  • Stakeholder Collaboration
  • Work closely with product management to ensure product and engineering alignment, timely delivery, and high-quality outputs.
  • Liaise with the VP of Science to ensure our engineering solutions integrate seamlessly with scientific data and research.
  • Maintain transparent communication with the CEO and other executives, ensuring alignment on company-wide objectives and goals.
  • Operational Excellence
  • Implement best practices for engineering processes, ensuring the delivery of scalable, reliable, and high-performance solutions.
  • Oversee technical debt, ensuring it's managed, addressed, and minimized.
  • Talent Management
  • Play a key role in hiring top-tier talent, fostering a culture of innovation and continuous learning within the engineering team.
  • Facilitate professional development opportunities and create pathways for growth for all team members.
  • Risk Management
  • Identify potential technological risks and create strategies to mitigate them.
  • Ensure compliance with all relevant regulations, especially those concerning data privacy and security.

Experience & Skills We're Looking For:

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field; Master's or higher is a plus
  • 10+ years of engineering experience, with at least 5 years in a senior leadership role
  • Proven experience in building and leading high-performing engineering teams
  • Familiarity with software development, machine learning, and geospatial data technologies
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and a passion for technological innovation
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills
  • Deep commitment to Pachama's mission and values
  • Experience in fast-growing tech startups is a plus
