Climate change can be overwhelming. Every day, there’s a new report, a new “breakthrough” solution, a new political battle. It’s easy to get lost in the noise of this dizzying array of information.
Distilled is a newsletter and YouTube channel that helps cut through some of that noise and help people better understand the problem and potential solutions to the climate crisis.
We're currently looking for an experienced writer to work with us to produce newsletter stories and video scripts. If you're interested, here's a little more about what we're looking for:

Responsibilities
- Do deep research on a wide range of topics related to climate change and sustainability
- Find and interview subject-matter experts on a wide range of topics
- Write stories for our newsletter
- Write Twitter posts and threads to promote stories
- Write YouTube video scripts
- Suggest visual content for our editor to include in videos
What We’re Looking For
- Exceptional writing skills — You know how to write clearly and explain complicated topics in an engaging way.
- Ability to write quickly — You have experience working in a fast-paced newsroom and know how to write high-quality stories quickly.
- Climate journalism experience — You’ve published stories about climate change in established news outlets or publications.
- An understanding of the work we do — You look at our work and get what we’re trying to create. And you’re excited to help us produce more of it.
- Timely communication and organization — We need someone we can rely on to hit deadlines and communicate effectively.
- Video journalism experience (a plus) — You’ve written scripts for YouTube and know how to tell a visually engaging story.
Rates
We pay $0.50 per word or $50 per hour for projects, depending on the scope of work.
